A declaration announced by the Youth Forum of the World Telecom 2006 show called for more joint efforts to annihilate the digital divide here on Friday.

The declaration, inked by around 250 young talents from some 150 member states of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), said the ITU youth fellows envision a world of greater understanding and diversity.

It called for a digital world where information and communication technologies (ICT) are distributed more equitably and the opportunities available for all.

The declaration said the digital divide is a consequence of diverse failings across multiple sectors that differ from country to country and region to region.

It urged for setting up of a Fair Trade label with the aim of increasing the incentives for companies to act in more socially responsible ways.

It expressed the wish to establish 10 ICT clubs in universities across all continents by January 2008.

It also pledged to launch a bi-annual electronic publication by January 2008, for all ICT stakeholders, in particular, governments.

The publication will hopefully provide a platform for the young talents' views and ideas covering issues as regulation, entrepreneurship, infrastructure and accessibility, and investment, it said.

The Youth Forum was launched here on Monday on the sidelines of the ITU Telecom World 2006 show, which concluded on Friday.
