Three killed, four trapped in colliery collapse in southwest China

GUIYANG, Dec. 28 -- Three miners died and another four are still trapped after a coal mining shaft collapsed in southwest China, local work safety sources said on Thursday.

The cave-in occurred Thursday morning at the Xinfa Coal Mine in Baiyuan District of Guiyang, capital of Guizhou Province, when 19 miners were working underground, said the provincial work safety administration.

Twelve escaped. Rescuers have found three bodies.

The coal mine has production permits and has a capacity of 30,000 tons.

Rescue operations are continuing.
