For curbing price hike, NDRC (National Development and Reform Commission) associated with the Ministry of Finance made a proclamation to put part of reserved sugar on the market by auction. The base price for one ton of sugar is 3,800 yuan, 500 yuan lower than the market price.

This sugar is white crystal sugar. The total amount of the sugar placed on the market will be 184,000 tons. The government placed 92,000 tons of sugar on Jan 5th and will place another 92,000 tons of sugar on Jan 16th.

A director in charge in the Management Centre of Huashang Reserved Production introduces that because sugar price rose fast, China government hope the sugar is placed on the market as soon as possible.

Since the last December, the domestic price of sugar has broken the record of 4000 yuan/ton, and the price in most selling areas stayed between 4300-4500 yuan/ton. Moreover, the highest price is 4700 yuan/ton, rising by 60% over the same period of the last year. Chinese government’s control on sugar will make sugar price fall to the normal level at the end of January.
