Statistics released by IResearch show that from September to December of 2006, the proportion of monthly total browsing time of video-sharing websites is clearly rising, while the proportion of literature and news is declining. In December 2006, the top five total monthly viewing time categories are blogs, literature, news, web search and communities.
The total monthly viewing time of literature websites declined by 1.32% from September to December. Since the beginning of October, especially, it witnessed three months of decrease, dropping to second place from first in December. By contrast, the proportion of the total monthly viewing time of video-sharing websites increased from September to December. The market share of effective browsing time rose to 1.33% from 0.78%.
Currently, there is no absolute market leader among video-sharing websites. According to iUserTracker, in December 2006, there are more than 22 websites which have more than one million users. But most of the websites have not established loyal groups of users and users' viscosity of various video-sharing websites is still relatively low. The video-sharing website market is still in the early stage of development.
IResearch believes that Chinese users' demand for video-sharing websites will become increasingly high. With more and more viewing time, the prospect for future market development is apparent.
