GUANGZHOU, South China, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- The United States beat host China 2-0 to clinch the Four-Nation Women's International Soccer Tournament title here on Tuesday.

Just before the half whistle, midfielder Lori Chalupny volleyed home an incredible long-range shot from outside the box to gift the US 1-0 lead.

In the almost lopsided game, China could hardly move the ball to the Americans' box and luckily keep a goalless draw in nearly 45 minutes because of their goalkeeper Han Wenxia's brilliant saves.

The stronger-looking Americans totally controlled the midfield where they fielded five players against China's four and almost froze Chinese star striker Han Duan.

The Chinese midfielders found no way to organize effective attacks or to stop fast-paced Americans.

Situation changed little in the second half. Han Wenxia went on with her great performance but still could not stop Natasha Kai from scoring on 56 minutes.

An American corner kick led to a goalmouth melee in which Kai made a close-range scoring to seal the victory.

Substitute Li Dongling squandered the best scoring chance for the hosts in the 80th minute when her shot flew a bit higher over the bar.

The United States tied Germany 0-0 and drew England 1-1 before meeting China. They won the Four-Nation Tournament for the fifth time after 1998, 2003, 2004 and 2006.
