Due to the separation of its CDMA and GSM network operations in January, China Unicom has now newly appointed deputy executives for the two independent networks.

The company has selected its vice president Yang Xiaowei to take charge of the CDMA network development and Li Gang has been appointed to run the GSM network development.

China Telecom passed a resolution at its work conference on January 17-19 anouncing it was to separate the operations of its CDMA and GSM networks. It intends to settle down all the departments with the new personnel before March 15, 2007.

Other personnel elected for new roles in China Telecom are Mingtian, Li Xiaomin and Zhou Xiaoping. They are to become a director and deputy directors of C network's operation departments respectively. Xie Guoqing, the former general manager of the Marketing Department has been named a director and Song Limei along with Jiang Dajun, the former deputy manager of value-added Service Department have become deputy directors of GSM network's Marketing Department. Tong Xiaoyu has been appointed to work as a director of China Unicom's new Value-added Service Department.

These new appointments aroused some public concern that perhaps China Unicom's C and G networks would have conflicting interests due to the executives' previous rivalry. In response to this, Yang Xiaowei stated that this should not occur as China Unicorn has made any internal adjustments that were necessary.
