BEIJING, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Fog will affect transportation to most parts of south China over the next two days, while parts of northeast China will experience heavy snow, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) forecast on Monday.

On Feb. 12 and 13, fog will spread across eastern Sichuan, western Chongqing, northeastern parts of Hunan and Jiangxi provinces, northwestern Fujian and western Zhejiang. Visibility in these areas will be down to between 100 meters and 600 meters.

West of the Yellow and Huaihe river valleys, the Yangtze-Huaihe valleys and areas south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River have experienced thick fog in the past four days, said Yang Guiming, a senior engineer with the CMA.

Transport departments across China should take precautionary measures to tackle the inconvenience the fog has caused to the country's Spring Festival travel peak, said Yang.

Heavy fog caused a chain collision of 80 vehicles and left 10 people dead on a highway near Nanchang City, east China's Jiangxi Province, on Sunday.

The accident brought thousands of vehicles to a standstill on the section of the expressway between Nanchang and Zhangshu, another city in the province.

From Feb. 13 to 15, moderate to heavy snow will blanket most of northeast China, including eastern Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang. Snowstorms are likely to strike eastern Jilin and eastern and central Heilongjiang.

Temperatures will drop drastically in these areas until Feb. 16.
