A few select TD-SCDMA suppliers have disclosed that the bidding for their equipment by China Mobile, which was set to be conducted before the Spring Festival holiday, will be postponed until March.
The first stage for the bidding on TD-SCDMA equipment was previously planned to commence on February 9. However, because the new round of network construction for TD-SCDMA is a huge project, its investment plan has to be approved by the National Development and Reform Commission. The NDRC has been unsatisfied with the proposed investment plan and China Mobile thereby had to delay its purchase plan.
After discussions, the NDRC agreed to a final plan that China Mobile, China Telecom and China Netcom invest RMB 26.7 billion (3.4 billion USD) together for 15,000 stations.
Analysts say that the plan is more favorable for TD-SCDMA suppliers, as the price for all TD-SCDMA will be more expensive under the investment plan.
No information has reported regarding the specific date in March for China Mobile's bidding, but TD-SCDMA suppliers are expecting it around the end of the month.
