Report: Taiwan's surplus in cross-strait trade up

BEIJING, March 4 (Xinhua) -- In 2006, the cross-strait trade value reached 88.12 billion U.S. dollars, up 15.4 percent over the previous year,according to Taiwan-based media quoting a recent report by Taiwan's economic department.

Of the total trade value, the Taiwan side made 38.55 billion U.S. dollars in surplus, up 6.6 percent year-on-year.

The report said cross-strait trade accounted for 20.7 percent of Taiwan's entire overseas trade last year, up 0.7 percentage point over 2005.

According to the report, Taiwan's exports to the mainland stood at 63.33 billion U.S. dollars, up 12.5 percent year-on-year, and it accounted for 28.3 percent of Taiwan's total exports.

Taiwan's imports from the mainland reached 24.79 billion U.S. dollars, 23.3 percent more than the figure of the previous year, and it accounted for 12.2 percent of Taiwan's total imports.
