28-year-old Yang Lijuan has been a fan of Hong Kong pop singer Andy Lau for 13 years. Her whole family rallied behind her dream of meeting her idol, spending all their savings, and her father was willing to donate a kidney to raise funds.  Finally, she was able to meet Andy Lau but her father was unsatisfied with the brevity of the meeting. On March 26th, in a bizarre bid to attain another meeting for his daughter, and to complain about the original meeting, Mr. Yang Qinji committed suicide by jumping into the Salisbury Sea.

Yang Lijuan, together with her father and mother came to Hong Kong, in hopes of meeting their idol Andy Lau. Last Sunday, Andy Lau met his fan and invited her to join his fan club. However, Yang was not satisfied with this and her father also complained that Andy Lau didn’t allot enough time for a private talk with his daughter.

Unsuccessful and dejected, the family then spent the night in a 24-hour restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. When Yang Lijuan and her mother slept, Mr. Yang left a note, asking the Hong Kong government to take care of his daughter and wife. He also complained about his daughter's meeting with Andy Lau and implored the singer to meet with her again, before jumping into the Salisbury Sea. His body was found and confirmed to be dead.
