Forbes magazine has published a rating of 2000 of the world's largest companies, with Citigroup heading the list. There are a total of 131 Chinese companies on the list.
The Forbes Global 2000 is a comprehensive list of the world's biggest and most powerful companies, as measured by a composite ranking of sales, profits, assets, and market value.
The list now has 131 Chinese companies, 89 of which are from Hong Kong and the mainland and 42 are from Taiwan. Included on the list are 20 additions from last year. The United States has 34 fewer companies compared with last year's rankings.
Among the remaining top 10 companies were the US-based Bank of America, the British banking group HSBC, the US-based conglomerate General Electric, the US banking firm JP Morgan Chase, insurance giant American International Group, US oil giant Exxon Mobil, Royal Dutch Shell, Swiss-based UBS and the Dutch-based bank ING.
China's top-ranked firm was PetroChina, which was No. 41 on the list. In addition to this, China's four largest telecom operators were all included in the list, with China Mobile, China Telecom, China Netcom and China Unicom ranking 89, 181, 401 and 542 respectively.
