Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) will begin test operations at its Nanhai LCD module (LCM) plant located in Guangdong, China in July with volume production slated to commence in August or September, according to a recent Chinese-language Commercial Times report which quoted Hong Mao-Sheng (transliterated from Chinese), an executive from CMO's LCD TV panel business.
The first stage monthly capacity from the Nanhai LCM plant will reach one million units in March or April 2008 and CMO plans to increase monthly capacity to two million in the second half of 2009 once its second stage construction is completed, the paper reported the company as saying.
CMO declined to comment on the report, adding that the company will update its LCM schedule during its first quarter investors conference scheduled for April 26.
CMO currently has two LCM bases in China. Apart from Nanhai, the company has another LCM base in Ningbo, China, which began operations in April of 2006.
