In her blog, mainland Chinese actress Fu Cong revealed that many Hong Kong pop and movie stars, including Andy Lau, Maggie Cheung, Michelle Reis and Rosamund Kwan, regularly take injections of sheep placenta to maintain their youthful appearances. She stated that the injections costs up to RMB 580,000 (75,044.96 USD).
Fu Cong states in her blog that recently, she inquired to her showbiz friends the nature of the beauty methods of Hong Kong stars. One of her friends, who works as a marketing manager for a Swiss sheep placenta product, revealed to her that many Hong Kong stars in fact receive injections of sheep's placenta to maintain their young looks.
Allegedly, these stars go abroad for their sheep placenta injection every year under the arrangement of the marketing manager's company. The sheep placenta costs between RMB 120,000 (15,526.544 USD) and RMB 580,000. Most of the high-income stars use the more expensive product to get the best results. This marketing manager says that one injection of the product can make people to look five years younger than their true ages. If people keep taking the injections for a few years, they can keep their current youthful look without change for more than ten years.
Fu Cong stated that, "Super stars like Andy Lau can't live without anti-aging products because he is actually middle aged and may not be as energetic as young people. However, he has to take part in various activities which may consume much energy and make people age quicker. After an injection of the anti-aging product, Lau is as youthful and energetic as he was in his twenties."
A skin expert, however, in an interview on this issue stated that sheep placenta has very bad side-effects and can make cells and organs become "lazy". Once users stop the injections, they are susceptible to a sped up aging process.
