Andy Lau and Yang Lijun
Yang Lijun, the die-hard Andy Lau fan, needs to take responsibility and 'wake up' following her father's suicide in Hong Kong.
This crazy woman, Yang Lijun, has caught my attention. She's become probably the best-known woman in China. The spoiled 28-year old Yangzhou native does nothing but stay at home fantasizing about Andy Lau. Her obsession with Andy could best be matched with the notorious John Hinckley's to actress Jodie Foster.Except in this case, instead of shooting the Chinese Prime Minister, she sent her father to hell. Oddly enough, her family thinks this is normal and as good parents they should support their daughter's dream at any cost, even their lives.
I don't know what's got to Lijun's father, but as a retired teacher, he should know how to educate kids better than anyone. To make his daughter's insane dream come true he sold his house, his kidney and his life. He left a 12-page posthumous letter blaming Andy Lau for his death and the family's misfortune. What a great father! Even after her dad's death, Lijun didn't wake up to the hard reality like those would in a cheesy TV drama series. Instead, she demanded ridiculous compensation from Andy Lau, RMB 500,000 to be exact, and pressed on for a private meeting. Even though she said it's her fault her father committed suicide, neither her nor her mom even claimed her dad's corpse before they left Hong Kong. Rumours had it that she went back to Hong Kong after her father's death and desperately tried to find out where Andy lives. What a great daughter!
Even when I was Lijun's age, I never was a die-hard fan of anyone, so I can hardly imagine what it's like for someone as crazy as her. I'm sure my parents are quite happy with that, as I didn't cost them a fortune trying to make my far-fetched dreams come true. When I was growing up, I was taught that I have to earn everything myself. In this world, no one loves someone enough to pay with one's own life. Yang's family is obviously a nutcase and the first one who figured that out should've found them a good shrink. Lijun deserves a bitch-slap for her father's death. She should be put in a straightjacket and sent to the nearest asylum. The whole Yang family incident has ignited a heated debate on a lot of Chinese forums. The debate centers around who should be responsible for the old man's death: Yang Lijun, Andy Lau, the press, or society in general?
My vote has to go to Yang's family I'm afraid. Although their lives seem to be tragic enough, all the media reported the father's death and most of the people attribute the tragedy to Lijun. She is portrayed as paranoid and I'm fairly certain the rest of her life can no loner be lived as a normal person. Famous Hong Kong director Wang Jing immediately released a new movie named Super Fans based on Yang Lijun's living tale. And Yang Teng, crowned as the Internet God of Abuse (网络骂神), composed a satire rap song named Song of Yang Lijun (http://dv.ouou.com/play/v_38d7f27f52a6e.html). I could only imagine how she feels now, but maybe that's exactly what she wants. Yang's parents, certainly, have a responsibility for this whole farce as well. I will show my respect and sympathy to the dead, and hope he rests in peace. But for the ones still alive, sweetheart, you've made you own bed and now you have to lie in it. Let's hope Lijun spends more time listening to the song dedicated to her father than staring at Andy's photo collection, with a dim hope that she can finally wake up.
