Strong quake hits western Tibet

BEIJING, May 5 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted the border areas of Ali Rutog and Gerze of Tibet Autonomous Region on Saturday afternoon, China's Seismological Monitoring Network reported.

The epicenter, at 34.3 degrees north latitude and 81.9 degrees east longitude, occurred at 4:51 pm Beijing time, it reported.
