The number of students who registered for the college entrance exam is about 10,100,000. This is the first year the number has exceeded 10 million. The recruiting quota will also increase by 10% this year.

Lin Huiqing, the minister of the Ministry of Education disclosed that the number of students who registered for college entrance exam increased by 600,000, among whom high school graduates account for 71.4% of the total number. Dai Jiagan, the director of the Exam Center of the Ministry of Education, predicted that the number of students attending the college entrance exam next year would continue to break this year's record, "but the number will fall the year after next year."

Lin Huiqing also says that the time of college entrance exam will not change this year, but it will possibly change in the future.

She points out that the Ministry has to take every aspect into consideration when setting the date for the exam. A survey in Beijing last year shows that most citizens are for weekend exams. However, western regions say that the college entrance exam will not cause the same traffic problems in western China as it does in Beijing, and the changing of the exam time will result in unnecessary troubles.
