BEIJING, Nov 1 (Reuters) - Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO.O: Quote, Profile, Research) saidon Thursday it will nearly double its spending in China, from$8.5 billion currently to $16 billion, in the next years.
The move "underscores both China's strategic importance toCisco's global operations and the broad range of of growthopportunities presented by China market," Chief Executive OfficerJohn Chambers said in a statement to reporters in Beijing.
The company said the spending would include significantincreases in material procurement, education, investments inCisco Capital, research and development, as well as direct andindirect investments in sales and service operations.
The company makes routers, switches and other networkequipment that underpin the Internet.
In August, the company raised its long-term revenue growthtarget to 12-17 percent, from the previous 10-15 percent. (US$=7.48 yuan)
