The line extending along latitude 40¡ãN, which crosses some of the world's most important cities from New York and Frankfurt to Tokyo and Seoul, has finally made a claim to Beijing, with a five-meter-high stone monument in the city's Botanical Garden.The construction of the monument was completed on Thursday, the 'Beijing Evening News' reported.The idea of building such a monument was suggested by Mao Yulin, a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), at the CPPCC meeting in February 2007.Mao said that although the 40¡ã N line is not as well-known as the Equator and the Tropic of Cancer, it is of great significance to Beijing.
