Taiwan pop singer A-mei Chang played the title role in a Japanese version of the Puccini opera "Turandot" in Tokyo on Thursday.

A-mei had to stand on a pair of fifteen centimeter high shoes and wear elaborate clothes weighing twenty kilograms.

After the Thursday premiere, the production will run through April 27 before moving on to Osaka and Nagoya. Japanese movie stars Goro Kiani and Shido Nakamura also joined in the performance.

Hong Kong singer and actress Kelly Chen was slated to play Princess Turandot until a leg injury forced director Amon Miyamoto to sign Chang.
