China edged past Canada 5-0 on the second day of the Bank BRI 2008 Thomas Cup men's team badminton competition and topped the Group A at Bung Karno Sports Hall in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday.

World No.1 Lin Dan beat Canada's Andrew Dabeka 21-11, 21-15 in the first singles while Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng demolished Canadian pairs Mike Beres and Willian Milroy 21-11, 21-10.

Bao Chunlai, ranked No. 3 in the world, crushed Bobby Milroy 21-14, 21-8. China's second doubles Xie Zhongbo and Guo Zhendong swept past Toby Ng and Alvin Lau 21-8,21-18.

In the final singles, Chen Jin demolished Stephan Wojcikiewicz 21-17, 21-10.

In the Uber Cup women's game Monday afternoon, China defeat Germany 4-1. World No. 1 Xie Xingfang swept past Xu Huaiwen, representing Germany, 21-10, 21-13 while Zhu Lin had some troubles when she played against German Julianne Schenk.

Zhu was not so comfortable with her strokes and made a number of unforced errors. Later, Zhu regained her momentum thanks to her sharp drop shots and smashes to end Schenk's resistance 21-18, 21-13.

China's head coach Li Yongbo said that he was satisfied with the performance of China's women squad today, saying "their job well down".

In spite of Zhang Ning's absence - the Olympic champion is said to lack fitness - the line up of the Chinese squad is impressive. Xie Xingfang, Lu Lan, Zhu Lin and Jiang Yanjiao are able to deliver enough points to secure China's victory.
