Search engine provider Baidu Inc. is planning to start targeted advertising services linked to search terms in Japan, its president said in a recent interview with Kyodo News. ''We would like to start soliciting advertisements linked to searches by 2010,'' said Chen Haiteng, the 41-year-old president of the Japanese arm of Baido.com Inc. Baido.com is China's biggest search engine portal and the third-largest in the world. In January, Baidu set up a search engine portal for the Japanese market, which is currently dominated by Google and Yahoo. Noting that users in Japan employ different search engines for news, maps, video and other purposes, Chen said he hopes that Baidu will be used as a ''second engine'' supplementing those of the dominant search providers.
