China Telecom (NYSE: CHA, HKG: 0728), the smallest of the nation's three telecommunications carriers, has introduced a free-call offer between its numbers amid a price war with China Mobile (NYSE: CHL, HKG: 0941). Student users, to whom only the service is offered, can name and call two Telecom numbers, no matter if they are mobile or landline and local (within the city) or non-local, for free. China Telecom is the nation's biggest landline services provider. It is capitalizing on early September, a traditional school resumption period, to attract student customers with other offers, like ¥0.1 per minute for on-campus calls and ¥0.2 for off-campus calls. These are the lowest charges applied by the company. It is reported China Mobile is still the top gainer of newly added campus users.
