A mobile phone for pregnant women, a World Expo 2010 platform and a car with a 3G phone were displayed at the China International Industry Fair 2009, which opened yesterday in Shanghai. Industry officials said telecommunications carriers were trying to cash in on data applications as income gradually declines from traditional voice services. China Telecom showcased its "Maternity Consultant" handset system. Its features include fetal heart monitoring, a radiation detector, an emergency button to call an ambulance and music suitable for a fetus. "We have to take advantage of CDMA technology with its low electromagnetic radiation and high data transmission speed," a China Telecom staff member said at the company's booth. China Telecom has also teamed with General Motors China to adopt its 3G technology for Cadillacs.
