ZTE Corp (SHE: 000063, HKG: 0763), a mobile handset maker in China, will put off launch of its OPhone handset to the first quarter of 2010, ZTE TD product manager Zang Hongxing told Tech.qq.com Thursday. The delay was due to a further research on the product's market positioning and competitiveness in the years following the launch, Zang explained. The OPhone uses the Open Mobile System developed by China Mobile (NYSE: CHL, HKG: 0941) to challenge China Unicom's (NYSE: CHU, SHA: 600050, HKG: 0762) introduction of Apple's iPhone to the mainland. Lenovo Mobile, unveiled their TD-SCDMA OPhone, O1, which was expected to have a price tag of ¥5,000 ($1 = ¥6.8). Lenovo Mobile CEO Lv Yan said its OPhone targets high wage earners.
HONG KONG, China - China has released a blacklist of 19 major online portals and Web sites, including Google and Baidu, that it claims provide and spread pornographic or obscene content, state media reported. The move comes as several Chinese government agencies, including the Ministry of Public Security, launch a month-long campaign to clean up the Web, according to the Xinhua news agency. "The government will continue to expose, punish or even shut down those infamous Web sites that refuse to correct their wrongdoing," Cai Mingzhao, deputy director of the State Council Information Office, said Monday at a teleconference. "Immediate action is needed to purify the Internet environment," Cai added, according to Xinhua. Authorities accused the portals, including Sina, Sohu and Netease, and the Web sites of either providing links to pornographic sites or failing to take down pornographic pictures after being notified by the China Internet Illegal ...

This comes after another article that they posted on the preceding Tuesday Olympics over, China said to be blocking Web sites again. According to China web watchers @fuzheado and @ullrich, the NYT had indeed been blocked in Beijing and Shanghai but was now working fine. We get the feeling that the good folk at the Golden Shield Project might just be messing with the NYT for the bad press the previous week.Still in the arena of China cyber-policing, a website and an internet user were fined for posting details of a love triangle in which the "spurned wife" committed suicide. This IHT article comments that the landmark case sets a precedent for the cracking down on the online incitement of vigilantes. Lenovo is the first. Its new W700ds laptop will offer a 10.6 inch LCD screen in addition to the 17-inch primary display. The W700ds also sports a quad-core Intel Core 2 CPU, up to almost 1 TB of storage, and an Nvidia Quadro mobile chip with up to 128 cores. A Lenovo exec called this souped-up version of the normally buttoned-down-for-business ThinkPads the 'nitro-burning drag racer of ThinkPads.' There is even a Wacom digitizer pad and pen for graphic artists, who are expected to be the target market, along with photographers and other creative types who are willing to trade shoulder-aching bulk (11 pounds) and price (minimum of $3,600) for productivity enhancements."At the other end of the laptop size spectrum, Dell recently announced plans to launch a rival to the MacBook Air.
