TAIWAN: The global economic crisis has led to job losses all over the world, and the bad times have led some unemployed to consider jobs they never would have previously.Family and loved ones are often at a loss when it comes to funeral arrangements. And in Taiwan, many hire professionals known as a "li-yi-shih" or an "instructor of rituals" to guide them through the ordeal.It is a profession that is becoming attractive, as more people find themselves out of a job. Eason Chan, Jay Chou win Mandarin pop music awards

TAIPEI (AFP) - - Hong Kong's Eason Chan and Taiwanese pop prince Jay Chou garnered top honours Saturday at Taiwan's Golden Melody Awards, dubbed the Chinese-language Grammys.

Chan picked up the most coveted Best Album of the Year accolade for "Don't Want to Let Go," although he missed out on the top singer prize to the absent Chou, who took three awards.

"I am especially happy to receive the award from" fellow Hong Konger Jacky Cheung, an emotional Chan told the crowd.

"I want to thank the judges ... I love you. I love Taiwan," he said as cheering fans chanted his name.

Chou, who led the race with eight nominations, saw off Chan, heartthrob singer/actor Leehom Wang and Kong Kong's Khalil Fong to take the Best Mandarin Male Singer title.

He also took Best Song of the Year for the heart-warming "Fragrant Rice" and Best Music Video for the dazzling "Mr. Magic" he directed and performed from the top-selling album "Capricorn."

No ban on Oasis' China concerts: Ministry

China's Ministry of Culture said Tuesday that it did not ban British rock & roll band Oasis from giving concerts in the country. "We have learned that the promoters of their concerts in China came across some financial problems," Sun Qiuxia, an official with the department of entertainment market under the ministry, told Xinhua over phone. "But we haven't received any formal document from the companies about canceling the concerts."She stressed that the ministry has approved Oasis' two concerts, April 3 in Beijing and April 5 in Shanghai, and did not revoke them.The concerts were cancelled because the company had some problems with cash flow, said a manager surnamed Luo with Beijing-based performing company Suoyou, one of the concerts' promoters, in Monday's Beijing Times report.The promoters were working on a solution about how to refund those who had bought tickets, he said.Reuters quoted the band in a M...
